Best teriyaki chicken bowls in the city. This is a fact. Simple walk up counter ordering and simple restaurant but they do what matters make ridiculous good food. Lunch at noon prepare for a line but it's worth it.

We went here yesterday because I was craving teriyaki chicken, and Katsu Cafe did not disappoint! When we walked in, the atmosphere was very cute and felt like a little tiki hut. They had a wide variety of sushi and also had a menu with a meal deal for every day of the week. I ordered the teriyaki chicken bowl, which has rice and steamed veggies, and we waited a little bit less than ten minutes for our food because it was a little busy in there. When our food came, it was the perfect temperature and looked delicious! (Which it was) I loved this place so much and can't wait to come back and try more food!

Pleasantly surprised! I thought it was just Japanese food just based off on the name alone but when i walked in and saw the menu, I knew this was Hawaiian-centric. Got the chicken katsu curry and it was very good, curry was mild and there was a small side of mac salad - a staple. A lot of seating and the service is very good! Definitely coming back because there was just so many things to choose from! Maybe one recommendation I'd offer is that there should be combo plates, very much so like what Hawaii does. Like katsu chicken and yakisoba would be a hit!

Tasty food with huge portion and economical price makes it a very good casual spot to eat Summary: Taste = taste of food Value = price, expertise, other non-food logistics Novelty = memorability among competitors Taste 4/5, Value 5/5, Novelty 3/5. Final score 4/5

Came down to SD to meet with a customer last week and we had lunch at Katsu Cafe. This is a local spot that is a cushion of Japanese and Hawaiian food. The inside has a Hawaiian style to it and the servers were friendly, although they never came back to check on our drinks, maybe we were to go to the front and ask? Which was probably the case since you order as you walk in and then seat yourself. Their fountain drinks have a strange flavor to them anyway, can't put my finger on it, not bad, just different. The restaurant is clean and has lots of indoor as well as outdoor seating, island style decor inside, Ohana vibes. We got a triple fantasy roll which I enjoyed very much. It is shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, crunch, spicy Mayo and eel sauce, really good. Recommended. Also got a spicy tuna cut roll, which was just OK, compared to other places, not very spicy and was basic. Also got the Teriyaki beef and chicken plate that comes with Miso soup, salad and potato salad. The beef and chicken, miso and salad were all great, the potato salad sadly was not great, flavor was lacking and a bit of a let down. All in all, this is a good spot for a nice meal, good choices of Japanese and Hawaiian foods, friendly, clean and comfortable dining. Support local.

Located off Clairemont Mesa Blvd in a busy strip mall, Katsu Cafe, formerly known as Teri Cafe has been around for many years. The staff changes over the years, but always welcoming and friendly. The space inside is large and great for lunch gatherings or dinner with the family. They have TV's, so I often come to watch big mid day soccer matches. As the staff changes, the food has stayed consistent. I typically order the #11 which comes with chicken teriyaki, shrimp and vegetable tempura. All really good and plenty of portion size for the price. I've been coming here for years and likely will continue for years to come.

Been going here since 2016, still great food. The chicken katsu plate I got was huge and only $15. People say the service isn't great, but it's an order at the counter and they bring your food out to you system. Also it's only $15 for a plate, no complaining here.

Funky and friendly, this Japanese-Hawaiian eatery is something of an institution for Kearny Mesa Asian cuisine. The meals are large and filling, the prices reasonable. There is nothing fancy about KF; it definitely has no riz and is not "in." It certainly is not gourmet. But for a reliable spot for a comfort cooking, Katsu Cafe is a consistently good bet. Ashita and aloha.

Great spot, great food for the price. Chicken teriyaki plate is the way to go. Fantastic. Chicken katsu plate and fried shrimp. Spent $24 Enjoy
